Suspect stable after shooting in Pike County

WAVERLY – The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Pike County on Wednesday night, according to a release from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.

            According to the release, at 10:41 p.m., three sheriff’s office deputies (Newton, Romine and Lane) responded to the Germany Road area in reference to a compliant from a citizen that a neighbor was terrorizing them and the citizen feared for their life.

            The incident led the deputies to Darst Road where they reported a suspect, Kevin W. Jenkins, was on foot. The release indicated shots were fired and units from the Waverly Police Department and the Piketon Police Department were contacted to assist at the location.

            Jenkins was injured during the incident and was provided medical attention, but the release did not indicate what type of injuries he sustained. He was transported, along with a deputy escort, to a Columbus medical facility for his injuries and at the time of the release was listed in stable condition.

            Media inquiries were directed to Ohio BCI and attempts to reach BCI for comment on the investigation were unsuccessful. The incident remains under investigation.
