The photo-finish race for Pike County Sheriff was certified Monday and Tracy Evans, who held a narrow lead before provisional ballots were counted, became the official winner.
Evans defeated Jim Nelson by a razor-thin margin of 5,677 to 5,541.
Pike County had 12,183 total votes during the General Election from the county’s 18,120 registered voters.
Evans had a 159 vote lead before the 363 provisional ballots were counted. On election night, Evans was complimentary of Nelson and said the close margin means he has to gain the confidence of the county.
“This was a clean race and I have a lot of respect for Jim Nelson,” Evans said. “This close margin shows that I would still have a lot to prove to the people of Pike County.”
